Maat issues the third report to monitor the performance of Parliament

In the context of its follow-up to the role of the legislature, and its keenness to enable citizens to follow the performance of their elected representatives, Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights issued the third report to follow up on the performance of the House of Representatives, which covers the period from March 10 to April 10, 2016.

The period covered by the report did not witness any legislation discussed or approved by Parliament other than the formation of a committee to discuss the State Council report related to the regulation, which included six observations. The committee for preparing the list was formed headed by Deputy “Bahaa Abu Shaqta” to discuss the observations of the State Council, where the committee approved four amendments and rejected two

The report also monitored the request of a number of representatives from the Parliament Secretariat to provide a legal researcher associated with each deputy so that the representatives can improve their parliamentary performance, as well as a number of deputies called for the establishment of a Parliamentary Experience House as an auxiliary advisory body.

The report also dealt with the procedures for studying the House of Representatives for the government’s statement, a process that is still ongoing. The report also monitored what coincided with the government’s presentation of its program to some deputies to the Ministry of Government to obtain visas related to services related to their constituencies, while the Parliament did not discuss any of the interrogations. The Maat report concluded that Parliament is still suffering from the predominance of the service performance of the representatives and the emergence of the phenomenon of absenteeism from the sessions, and preoccupation with formal procedures at the expense of the legislative and oversight role assigned to Parliament.
