Maat issues the sixth report to monitor the performance of Parliament

Positive action at the level of fact-finding and committee activity during the past month.

In the context of its follow-up to the role of the legislature, and its keenness to enable citizens to follow the performance of their elected representatives, Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights issued the sixth report to follow up on the performance of the House of Representatives, which covers the period from 11 June to 10 July 2016

The report revealed that last month witnessed remarkable progress and movement in terms of the performance of the specific committees that have completed preparing their reports on a number of important laws, as well as a strong movement regarding the supervisory role, as well as the success of the Council in finalizing the approval of the state budget for the fiscal year 2016 / 2017.

The report also dealt with the Parliament discussing some international agreements signed by the President of the Republic for ratification or review. The report also monitored the council’s formation of a fact-finding committee about the problems of wheat silos, during which the committee uncovered major corruption in a number of silos, and the file was fully transferred to the Public Prosecution.

The report also monitored the interest of many MPs in the direct service role of their departments beyond their interest in the legislative and oversight role of a general nature, which is due to the continued absence of local councils, as well as the failure of the current local authorities to respond to many citizens' problems.
