The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights issued its monthly report on the most prominent terrorist operations and counter-terrorism efforts in the African continent for the month of September 2020, to track the path of terrorist groups, and come up with recommendations and assessments of the current and future security situation on the African continent.

The report dealt with the details of the most prominent of those operations that took place during the month of September, in each of the five regions of the continent, and which occurred in 16 African countries, with 38 terrorist attacks; It caused the death of at least 297 people, while Boko Haram was behind the most casualties, while Al-Shabab terrorist movement was the movement that carried out the most terrorist attacks.

The report stated that the most affected region is West Africa, in which 122 victims were killed, with a rate of 41.22% of the percentage of victims for the month, after 16 terrorist operations in 5 countries. Nigeria is at the forefront of countries that have fallen victim to 74 victims after 6 terrorist operations. While the State of Somalia and its partners came in the forefront of the countries that were able to bring down the largest number of terrorist elements, when it reached 87 terrorist elements.

In this regard, Ayman Akil stated: The head of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, said that the increasing use of landmines to claim civilian lives, especially in Somalia, has been observed by the terrorist Al-Shabab movement. The human rights expert warned of the increasing targeting of government employees in the country. Aqeel recommended the need to work on developing joint plans with both AMISOM and AFRICOM forces in Somalia to stop targeting civilians in any form and at any price.

Commenting on the report, Basant Essam mentioned; The researcher at the African Affairs and Sustainable Development Unit at the Maat Foundation said that the deteriorating security situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo requires more efforts in a different way to combat the rebel elements, especially the "Allied Democratic Forces" to curb the spread of bloody massacres whose victims are innocent civilians.

On the other hand, the researcher on African affairs recommended that the southern African countries should join hands to launch a regional organization whose primary responsibility would be to combat the newly rampant ISIS terrorism in Mozambique.

It is worth noting that the continent of Africa comes within the interest of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, as it is a member of the General Assembly in the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union, as well as the North African region coordinator in the group of major non-governmental organizations in Africa of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations.
