Aqeel: “The blatant Turkish interventions in Libya cannot be tolerated any more

Pasha: Ethnic and local tensions are among the most important threats to peace and security in African countries

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights issued its monthly report on the most prominent terrorist operations and counter-terrorism efforts on the African continent for the month of May 2020, to track the path of terrorist groups and come up with recommendations and assessments of the current and future security situation on the African continent.

The report dealt with the details of the most prominent of those operations that occurred during the past month of May, in each of the five regions of the continent, which occurred in 18 African countries, with 53 terrorist attacks, and caused the death of at least 1,393 people, while ethnic tensions were behind Drop the largest number of victims.

The report stated that the region most affected is East Africa, with 1059 victims, or about 76.02% of the total number of victims of the month, as a result of 18 terrorist operations announced in 3 countries. While the Republic of South Sudan was at the forefront of the countries affected by terrorism this month, in which 1,000 people were killed, and the State of Somalia was subjected to the largest number of terrorist operations after the remarkable activity of Al-Shabaab movement, with 15 terrorist operations. While Nigeria was at the forefront of the countries that were able to bring down the largest number of terrorist elements, when it reached 143 terrorist elements.

The human rights expert, Ayman Aqeel, stated; President of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, that the blatant Turkish interventions in the Libyan affairs, cannot be tolerated any more. Aqeel appealed to the international and continental community to put pressure on the Turkish regime to stop interfering in the Libyan affairs, as well as to immediately stop sending mercenaries to Libya. Akil warned against cloning the Syrian model in Africa on Libyan soil.

As Abdul Rahman Pasha indicated: Senior researcher at the African Affairs and Sustainable Development Unit of the Maat Foundation, on the danger of ethnic and tribal tensions and local conflicts to peace and security in African countries that usually end in killing and terrorizing civilians. And "Pasha" called on the governments of countries where such tensions erupt, to have more control over their causes, and to uphold the values of prompt justice and not impunity, no matter what.

It is worth noting that the continent of Africa comes within the interest of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, as it is a member of the General Assembly in the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union, as well as the North Africa region coordinator in the group of major African NGOs affiliated to the high-level political forum of the United Nations.
