Maat expresses its concern about the violent events taking place in Egypt within the last hours The violence and terrorism groups wants to dissuade the Egyptians from the exercise of their electoral entitlement

Within its' monitoring to the Egyptian presidential electionsandthe political and societal context, Maat Foundationfor Peace, Developmentand Human Rights has expressed its deepconcern aboutthe events thattook place in somedistricts in Cairo and Qalubia yesterday, Wednesday,14th of May 2014.
So three violent incidents are synchronized with the start of the voting process, to choose new Egyptian president, for Egyptians abroad, and that's significantly meaningful. The first is the martyrdom of Ahmed Haider officer by unknown assailants, the second is breaking into Rabaa Square by some groups belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood and burning public utilities represented in the memorial for police martyrs using molotov.
The third incident is demonstrations supporting ousted president Mohamed Morsi, in Ezbet El Nakhl. They clashed with the neighborhood, used fireworks and burned 20 commercial stores.
Maat believes that these events and their timing can't be separated by any means from the policy pursued by the opposing groups to the road map entitlements in Egypt; in which they seek spreading the fear and panic that would discourage voters from exercising their electoral entitlement and choose their president in a free and fair election.
Maat confirms on its consideration to - throughout its assessment of the electoral process in Egypt – the practices of violence and terrorism committed by groups who neither use democratic tools nor legitimate objection to the political path chosen by the majority of the Egyptian people. Maat also urges the Egyptian authorities to take all measures to face violence and terrorism, and the undemocratic non-peaceful practices.
