Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights concluded the ninth training workshop for civil society organizations in the governorates of North Upper Egypt, as part of its training program for “Capacity enhancement Cadres of civil society organizations to follow up on Egypt's obligations before the universal periodic review mechanism., Where the training workshop, which lasted on the 29th and 30th of October 2016, hosted 24 civil work cadres with 12 NGOs working in the governorates of Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, and New Valley.

The workshop came in the context of the second phase of the implementation of the training program, and focused on enabling the participants to formulate proposals and policy alternatives to contribute to the adoption of new practices and procedures compatible with the recommendations of the UPR 2014, as well as enabling organizations to participate in the process of preparing reports and statements and submitting them to the review mechanism. Universal League.

The training workshop witnessed the organizations presenting their previous activities in the field of awareness of the UPR and strengthening community monitoring of its results, the most important of which was the integration of awareness of the periodic review in the context of the organizations' activity in training and educating youth in local councils, organizing popular seminars and conferences to raise awareness of the periodic review and discuss local problems in light His recommendations, to conduct competitions between youth and volunteers in the associations for public information related to the UPR.

The training program is part of the capacity building component of a project "The Universal Periodic Review as a Tool to Improve Public Policies during the Transition", Funded by the European Union and whose implementation continues throughout the years 2016-2017, and which seeks to strengthen the role of the universal periodic review to improve public policies and reform human rights during the transitional phase in Egypt by actively involving civil society organizations, activists and media professionals in following up and calling for the necessary reform of human rights, And it adopts new policies compatible with international human rights standards based on the 2014 universal periodic review.
