Maat discusses the negative impacts of armed groups in Africa on achieving Agenda 2030

Hajar: External interventions in Africa do not seek to achieve development, but rather to fuel conflict

The Maat Foundation for Peace made an oral intervention during a high-level meeting held in New York to form a common global vision for a sustainable and peaceful future.

The intervention emphasized the obstacles that armed groups pose in the way of achieving the 2030 Agenda. The meeting came during the sessions held under the high-level political forum at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Hajar Moncef, Director of the African Affairs and Sustainable Development Unit at the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights gave an oral intervention in which she spoke about the fact that armed groups and terrorism are among the most dangerous crises facing the African continent to achieve the goals of sustainable development, especially Goal No. 16 on peace, justice and strong institutions, so how can African countries establish democratic values And justice in light of the increase in the number of armed groups and terrorist operations in Africa. She also explained that Goal No. 16 is a priority goal because it is considered a basis for achieving any other goals in societies.

 This intervention comes within the framework of the Maat Foundation's interest in promoting human rights and peace values in the African continent, as it is the North African coordinator in the group of major NGOs in Africa and a member of the General Assembly of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union in addition to being the coordinator of the Egyptian national chapter in the African Union.
