Aqeel: The Houthis are striking international agreements and covenants completely 

 Faouki: The Houthi militia has recruited thousands of children to fight in the conflict

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights condemned the continuation of the grave violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians in Yemen, some of which amount to war crimes, as the military escalation continues, including the bombing of homes and targeting civilians, during the intervention that the Foundation made today during the interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner For Human Rights, Michel Bachelet, within the activities of the 42nd session of the Human Rights Council.

 Ayman Aqil, head of the Maat Foundation, explained that since the beginning of this year until the end of July, the Foundation monitored, in cooperation with field activists in the Yemeni governorate of Dhala, the Houthi militia's destruction of 712 homes and facilities, the bombing of 31 houses and the destruction of 4 bridges, and the attack on 9 mosques, which were converted into military barracks. The head of the foundation added that the Houthi militia looted and destroyed 1,320 farms for citizens, and destroyed 17 water pumps, and Houthi militias also targeted schools and educational institutions, with the number of violations of the educational sector reaching 49 cases, including 3 schools completely, 6 partially, two colleges and two technical institutes, and the transfer of 8 Schools to military barracks and weapons stores.

Aqil emphasized that the Houthis pursue the opposition, detain them in secret prisons, and bring them to trials that lack the most basic fair trial standards, which execute and imprison large numbers of Yemenis. The Houthi’s violations are not limited to the arrest and detention of civilians. Rather, detainees are subjected to brutal torture, which often leads to death. Which is a violation of international conventions and norms.

For his part, Islam Fawki, Director of the Foundation's Policy Analysis Unit, said that the Houthi militia has recruited tens of thousands of children, which violates Article 38 of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, which stipulates the prohibition of the participation of children in armed conflicts. Fawqi also spoke about the ongoing suffering of Yemeni women who are being detained and subjected to sexual assault. During the first half of 2019, 120 cases of detention of women were monitored in Sana'a Governorate only, most of them were detained in criminal investigation facilities.
