The commitment to international standards for the protection of human rights cannot be separated from any developmental orientation or a “renaissance” project for the state. Therefore, today’s announcement by the Egyptian government of its vision for Egypt 2030 requires that we stand on a human rights basis as we address it, especially since Egypt has obligations in this field in accordance with the instruments. The international community that has ratified it, and its voluntary pledges to the universal periodic review mechanism.

Within the framework of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights implementing the UPR project as a tool to improve public policies in cooperation with the European Union, it appreciates the Egyptian government's interest in presenting a general vision that can serve as a framework for action during the next fourteen years. A democratic political system that respects human rights and is based on the rule of law “is a positive trend, which must be built upon.

On the other hand, Maat believes that the vision presented by the Egyptian government should have been closely linked to Egypt's voluntary commitments and pledges in the field of human rights, especially those that it promised to accomplish during the UPR 2014 process, as these commitments cover a number of political, economic and social "concerns". Which are in their entirety the features of Egypt Vision 2030, but what is striking is that the link between the human rights context and other contexts was not prominent during the presentation of the vision.

In a related context, Ayman Aqeel, head of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights called on the Egyptian government to expedite the adoption of plans, action programs and specific procedures to put the Egyptian Vision 2030 into practice, especially in the axis related to establishing a democratic system and respecting human rights. Aqeel also called for the need to work on formulating These programs are in line with Egypt's international obligations to the universal periodic review mechanism. He said, “The government should open up to a greater degree on Egyptian civil society organizations during the stages of transforming the vision into programs and projects to ensure that Egypt's international obligations are taken into consideration.
