Maat for Peace discusses establishing peaceful societies in conflict countries

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, in cooperation with the League of Arab States and the International Alliance for Peace and Development, held a symposium entitled (Establishing Peaceful Societies in Conflict Countries - International Partnership = Peaceful Societies).

The meeting began with a speech by Ayman Aqil, President of Maat Foundation, in which he spoke about the need for the Arab region to adopt the sustainable development goals, particularly Goal 16, and to realize its goals. Aqil stressed in his speech that there are three Arab countries that are in a state of civil strife and are vulnerable to collapse (Syria, Libya and Yemen), and the Israeli occupation authority continues to violate the rights of the Palestinians. Aqeel expressed his deep regret for the support of some Arab countries for armed terrorist militias and extremist groups that provided them with political and logistical support. Aqeel talked about peace as one of the goals of the development plan in the countries of conflict represented in Goal 16 and its goal, and reviewed the challenges facing the achievement of peaceful societies. Aqeel concluded his speech with the need to prepare a strategic plan that everyone could adopt to intervene in conflict areas (Syria - Libya - Yemen) in order to build peace The President of Maat for Peace indicated that the future of the region depends on the ability of its people, governments and civil society to unite in order to eliminate terrorism and bring peace.

In her intervention, Dr. Astrid Stalkalberger, an expert in the field of development, stressed the importance of caring for children and talked about the risks, threats and harms that afflict the Yemeni child, whether inside or outside Yemen, and what could happen as a result of terrorist operations and sectarian and sectarian conflicts for the people of Yemen, as well as international interventions.

In his speech, Andrew Yoss Bessis, Vice President of Crypto Economy, stressed the importance of the private sector and the business sector in achieving the goals of sustainable development, and that the business sector, economy and investment cannot be dispensed with as the sustainable development goals will not be achieved without the business sector.

Speaking about the situation in Yemen, Nabil Abdel Hafeez, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights in Yemen, talked about the disasters that Yemen has been subjected to at all levels since 2011 and the heavy losses of money, people and infrastructure.

Afaf al-Mahdi, from Libya, a member of the Union of Arab Journalists and editor-in-chief of the Libyan position in Cairo, spoke about the dangers to which the Libyan people are exposed.

In her speech, Naglaa Al-Bitar, head of the Watan Foundation for Serving Syrian Refugees in Egypt, confirmed some examples of cases of Syrian refugees who died in more than one country without their families, and how many families have been displaced due to the war in Syria.

The interventions dealt with many related issues, which expressed in their entirety the potential of civil society to bring about change on the ground and to have a role in building peace.

It was agreed at the end of the meeting to hold a series of mini-meetings with experts to develop the strategic plan and document that would serve as a breakthrough and declaration to work on achieving Goal 16 and building peaceful societies and international partnership.
