Maat and the International Alliance meet with the office of the Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders

Within the framework of its participation in the 38th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, currently held in Geneva, Switzerland, a delegation representing the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights and the International Alliance for Peace and Development held a meeting today, Wednesday, 27 June 2018, with the Office of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders.
Ayman Aqil, head of the Maat Foundation and the coordinator of the alliance, stated that the meeting included the definition of the office and team of the Special Rapporteur of the Alliance, its objectives and the justifications for its establishment and future plan, and the confirmation that the alliance moves completely away from political and ideological biases, and that it does not raise a slogan other than the slogan Unite for Peace.
Aqeel said that the meeting also dealt with challenges and intimidation campaigns targeting human rights activists in some regions, specifically in the Arab region, and the delegation informed the office of the rapporteur of the complaint that Maat Foundation and the Coalition submitted to the Human Rights Council last May against Qatar, which carried out acts of intimidation and intimidation for the coalition. And its members during the 37th session of the Human Rights Council.
Aqeel indicated that the complaint was based on Human Rights Council resolution 12/12 at its twelfth session, which “calls on the Secretary-General to submit a report to the Council annually, which includes a compilation and analysis of any available information, from all appropriate sources, on the alleged reprisals against activists.
Last March, Maat Foundation and the Coalition were subjected to a fierce campaign of intimidation and intimidation by spreading false rumors against it to obstruct its work, and to discourage it from carrying out its role in participating in international activities in the service of human rights issues in the world, and this campaign included the use of the name of the United Nations in a manner that contains Obvious fraud, and the complaint included a review of indicators and evidence proving Qatar's involvement and support for the process of intimidation and intimidation, and the spread of rumors that targeted the Foundation and the coalition.
The meeting with Mr. Michel Forrest also discussed ways of cooperation and coordination between the coalition and the Maat Foundation on the one hand and the Office of the Special Rapporteur on the other side, which contributes to assisting the efforts of human rights defenders in the world and protecting them from acts of intimidation, intimidation and political and ideological polarization.
It is worth noting that the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders was established for the first time according to Human Rights Commission Resolution No. 61/2000 on April 26, 2000, and the mandate was last extended according to Human Rights Council Resolution No. 5/34 of March 23, 2017.
The Maat Foundation and the International Alliance for Peace and Development, during their participation in the 38th session, are keen to open channels of cooperation and coordination with international experts to serve peace and development issues in the world, and contribute to strengthening the participation of civil society organizations in UN decision-making, and to support international mechanisms to protect human rights.
