What happened is a popular revolution and not a military coup. Maat calls for the Egyptian people's choices to be respected and the rejection of violence and exclusion

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights is following with great concern the events taking place in Egypt during the past days, especially in the period that followed the dismissal of the “former President of the Republic” on July 3, 2013, and the President of the High Constitutional Court assumed the duties of the President of the Republic temporarily, according to the road plan announced by the forces Egyptian armed forces, backed by most of the various political, religious and youth forces
The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights expresses its firm position, which it previously announced in an official statement signed by 37 Egyptian organizations on July 2, 2013 that the tens of millions who embarrassed the streets and demanded the president's departure represent a model of direct democracy through which the people said their word and announced their choice The Foundation would like to confirm the following:
1- What happened in Egypt is a comprehensive popular revolution in which many times those who elected former President Dr. Mohamed Morsi participated in the last presidential elections. Therefore, the use of the term military coup is not accurate at all, so what happened is a popular summons to the armed forces to take a step that has become necessary and necessary to disqualify The President and the announcement of the transitional arrangements agreed upon by the various political forces, which are the arrangements that were announced in the presence and with the participation, support and support of religious institutions and representatives of civil, Salafi and youth political forces, and won the blessing and support of tens of millions of Egyptians who gathered in the streets and squares to support these gains
2 - The Foundation categorically rejects any prejudice to the rights of the supporters of the Islamic trend to participate in the political process in the future, and we reject any incitement against them and considers it a discrimination that must be stood against. It revives the position of the armed forces that expressed this trend in an official statement, and calls on the various political forces and the media to follow the same The road to achieving national reconciliation and overcoming the stage of division and disagreement
3 - The Foundation condemns the use of violence or the hinting at it by any faction, whether it is violence directed at individuals, property, or national institutions. The Foundation also condemns the discourse that looms over violence and exhorts it in an open and covert manner by some leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and jihadist groups, and believes that this discourse undermines Pillars of Social Peace. The Foundation calls on the political and organizational leaderships of the Muslim Brotherhood to assume national responsibility for what is happening.
4- The Foundation believes that the violent incidents that targeted the Egyptian army units in Sinai are a criminal attack on a state institution and a threat to the Egyptian national security that must be dealt with with all force and firmness within the framework of the law
5- The Foundation calls on the powers and international and regional organizations to take sides with the choice of the Egyptian people and not stand against their will, which was clearly and explicitly announced, and for their official positions to be responsible, to uphold the value of respecting the will of the people and to stop their support for regimes that have lost their legitimacy.
