Lecture under the title “How Armed Conflicts Affect the Environment Under International Humanitarian Law

Nourhan Mustafa, Director of the International Humanitarian Law Unit at the Maat Foundation, participated in the closing session of the United Nations Model Simulation at Helwan University, which was held this year at the headquarters of the International Organization for Migration in Egypt, where the International Humanitarian Law Unit participated in a lecture entitled “How armed conflicts affect the environment under international humanitarian law “. In order to enhance the participants' abilities to understand environmental issues in light of wars and conflicts, and to clarify what international humanitarian law is, students from various Egyptian universities and various disciplines participated in that session, as well as representatives from the International Organization for Migration in Egypt.

The session lasted over an hour, in which it discussed an overview of the problem of the environment and natural resources and aggression thereof, the applicable legal rules for protecting the environment in times of peace and war, international efforts to solve the problem and the role of organizations and effective actors. It provided them with several resources and invited students to start researching environmental issues
