  • Maat's intervention for peace, development and human rights at the 31st session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

Item VIII: Discussion by organizations on global crime trends and response measures in crime prevention and criminal justice

The intervention talked about cybercrime and the harm it causes to the state and individuals, the risks to which companies and state facilities are exposed, and the threat and danger to women on the Internet. This was considered the second intervention on the same subject after it was presented in the first session of the Ad Hoc Committee Cybercrime, given that the thematic framework of the 31st session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice is cybercrime

For this reason, Maat gave its recommendations as follows:

Legal articles should clarify the nature of cybercrime, its classification and the indicators on which it is based.

Forcing private sector companies and internet companies to fight cybercrime and hold them international legal responsibility for the spread of these crimes in case they take steps to curb them.

They should exchange legal and technical expertise, in particular legislation related to cybersecurity and cybercrime issues

An action plan should be developed to ensure that developed countries improve the Internet sector and its security in developing countries.

Allow civil society organizations to play an effective role in combating this phenomenon.
