Aqeel: Qatar is refraining from ratifying human rights agreements that contradict its practices

During his participation in the activities of the State of Qatar undergoing the universal periodic review in Geneva, Ayman Akil revealed that Qatar has not yet ratified the International Convention for the Protection of the Rights of Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, as well as the First and Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Rights Civil and political rights, as well as the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Professional Treatment or Punishment.

Although Qatar ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 2009, it still reserves reservations on Articles 2 (Paragraph A) and 9, 15, 16 and 29. With regard to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel or Inhuman Treatment or Punishment In addition to its reservation to Articles 2 and 14 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child ratified in 1995, it has reservations on articles 1 and 16, which it ratified in 2000.

This came during Ayman Aqeel's speech at the symposium held today at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, in conjunction with Qatar's submission to the universal periodic review mechanism for the third time.
