Disarmament in Southern Sudan: There must be a different mechanism for blood injection

The outcome of recent clashes between soldiers and civilians during a disarmament operation in the town of # Tung in central South Sudan exceeded 127 people, which began last Saturday. Among them were 45 dead soldiers from the # army in southern Sudan and 82 armed youths from the area, while 32 soldiers were wounded.

The security forces are carrying out an operation to disarm civilians in the area that witnessed bloody tribal clashes #, for more than six years after the #_civil war in the country, many towns are still armed with weapons that the people keep for protection and to deal with the theft of livestock.

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights calls on the government in Southern Sudan to create a different mechanism for a more peaceful disarmament, which does not result in this number of victims, blood injection. The Foundation stresses the need to work to preserve the gains that the country has recently started to bear fruit as a result of the initial commitment to the processes of the # Peace Agreement.
