Qatar claims to support human rights

Ali Khalfan Al-Mansouri, representative of Qatar, spoke about the universal periodic review mechanism and that it is an important mechanism to improve the records of countries. Qatar has been keen to actively participate in this mechanism within the framework of its respect for the promotion of human rights and its commitment to support the international and domestic human rights process, and Qatar is always keen to support Human rights not only within it but also externally, as it has provided financial aid for development plans for countries and groups experiencing conflict, and continues to mediate peace in a number of regions, and confirms that Qatar has received 270 recommendations from state delegations, 178 recommendations have been accepted, and 92 recommendations It did not accept it for reasons related to its violation of Islamic law or the Qatari constitution, or that it affects the national security of Qatar, or its reliance on information that has nothing to do with health

Egypt condemns the Qatari government’s continued hostile practices against some countries

The delegate of Egypt emphasized that supporting terrorism that harms the countries of the region, which contravenes the decisions of the Human Rights Council and the extent of the impact of terrorism on the enjoyment of the basic rights of individuals, is completely unacceptable, and Egypt made a number of recommendations on this issue, but Qatar rejected them, and condemned Qatar's refusal to 92 recommendations, or about 34% of the recommendations submitted to it, and condemns the Qatari government’s continued hostile practices towards a number of countries

UAE, Qatar must stop its support for terrorism

The representative of the Emirates indicated that Qatar must pay attention to the 92 recommendations it rejected, including the recommendations made by the UAE delegation regarding the illegal actions it undertakes in support of terrorist groups. She also urged Qatar to put an end to the sources of threats and hate speech towards some countries. Through its media, it called on Qatar to work to review its practice of supporting terrorism, and to listen to the help of the people of Al-Ghufran who suffer from grave violations in what is considered contrary to international law

 Bahrain We condemn Qatar's support for hate speech through the media

The delegate of Bahrain indicated that despite Qatar's acceptance of the recommendations submitted by Bahrain, it is concerned about migrant workers who work in a forced manner in Fitr, and condemned its failure to accept recommendations to support terrorism, and condemned its support for hate speech through its media, which affects the security of countries. The region, and confirms that the evidence is clear of Qatar's support for terrorism by providing financial, logistical and media support to terrorist groups

Ethiopia, civil and political rights are guaranteed to all citizens

The delegate of Ethiopia affirmed that his country is always working to respect human rights, stressing its continuous cooperation with the universal periodic review mechanism, as part of its work to promote human rights, as it has accepted 270 out of 325 recommendations submitted to it, and that it will work to implement these recommendations through the National Committee He stressed that last April, 7 decisions were taken regarding the development of political, civil and economic rights, and affirms that political and civil rights are fully guaranteed to all citizens

Egypt We commend Ethiopia's acceptance of the recommendations to combat terrorism

The delegate of Egypt thanked the delegation of Ethiopia for taking note of the recommendations during its universal periodic review, and praised the acceptance of the majority of the recommendations submitted to it by the delegations of states, and their acceptance of the recommendations made by the Egyptian delegation, in the field of combating terrorism and its impact on human rights, and recommends the Council to adopt the report

Brunei is taking important steps to ratify the Convention against Torture

The representative of Brunei affirmed that the state respects human rights and its constant keenness to cooperate with the universal periodic review mechanism, and that it has accepted a large number of recommendations submitted by states where it has accepted 108 recommendations, and that it is taking important steps to study the ratification of the Convention against Torture and Inhuman Treatment, and is studying Brunei Currently on the ratification of core ILO conventions, within the current labor legislation and enforcement practices, to adequately protect all migrant workers and provide adequate housing.

Portugal We worked to improve women's rights and confront racism

 

The Portuguese ambassador affirmed that his country is committed to human rights, and stressed that respecting human rights for all is among the priorities that Portugal cares about, and therefore it cooperated with the review mechanism in its third review, as it presented its first review in 2009, and the second in 2014, in which Portugal accepted most of the recommendations presented from Countries have accepted 229 recommendations and worked to improve women's rights and confront racism, and this strategy provides them with all their basic rights and combating racism against them. He also stressed that Portugal is working in an effective way to improve prison conditions, and in 2017 it adopted a national plan to improve prison conditions, among the recommendations What was not accepted was the ratification of the Migrant Workers Protection Convention

The Iraqi Development Organization is concerned that Qatar has not ratified the Migrant Workers Convention

The Iraqi Development Organization welcomed Qatar’s response to 70% of the recommendations presented, including the independence of the judiciary, and the compliance of counter-terrorism measures with international standards, but expressed concern about the large number of recommendations that Qatar merely took note of, and also expressed its concern about the lack of Qatar's ratification of the Migrant Workers Convention, and despite what Qatar has committed to reviewing its national legislation to fully comply with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and ratifying the Convention on Stateless Persons, it did not support recommendations that aim to allow Qatari women to transfer nationality to their children. On an equal footing with men, he was concerned about Qatar's refusal to amend legislation that violated the right to freedom of expression.
