Unfulfilled Promises & Unchecked Violations… The Human Rights Situation in Turkey during the First Half of 2021

Human rights violations in Turkey have resulted in a very deteriorating, difficult and tragic humanitarian and human rights situation, especially after the coup attempt in July 2016. The Turkish government has devoted a course of violent practices and organized violations at all levels of human rights from which all Turkish citizens have suffered, and impunity has become the norm. The prevailing climate in a climate of fear and the restriction of civil and political freedoms under the pretext of combating terrorism and maintaining national security, as the Turkish government imposes an almost complete nationalization of the means of public opinion and expression, and imprisons journalists and civil society activists merely for expressing their opinions contrary to the directions of the government, as it pursues opponents abroad to ensure that there is no escape No punishment, in addition to the use of arbitrary arrests and torture as tools to intimidate the opposition and silence mouths.

This comes in conjunction with the dispersal of peaceful demonstrations by brute force, not only that, but government neglect and negative stereotypical discourses towards women’s rights issues caused the spread of domestic violence crimes. On the other hand, the Turkish government does not care about the sovereignty of other countries, but rather interferes in their affairs, leading to serious human rights violations that rise Some of them amount to war crimes, and as such, this study discusses human rights violations in Turkey during the first half of 2021 in light of the Turkish government’s violation of its pledges to achieve human rights reforms that enhance the human rights situation.
