Journalists: Maat is the first human rights organization to visit the New Valley

The “Universal Periodic Review Caravan of the New Valley” concluded its second day with a meeting with the media in the New Valley, and the meeting included a selected group of journalists, reporters and leaders of local media in the New Valley Governorate. During the meeting, a group of urgent issues related to the work of media professionals in the New Valley Governorate were discussed, in addition to problems Which media professionals work to present press reports about, and the media workers called on the Foundation to pay more attention to building the capacity of media professionals, especially on media coverage of human rights issues.
The “Universal Periodic Review Caravans” is an innovative package of integrated field activities through which the Maat Foundation visits a group of governorates and remote areas. The Foundation’s program includes a visit to a group of archaeological, heritage and religious areas, a meeting with a group of media professionals and leaders of civil work, in addition to a group of meetings With the residents of the governorate and the different target groups, the visit will be concluded with a massive popular conference entitled “The Universal Periodic Review, the Future of Development and Combating Terrorism in the New Valley Governorate”, with the aim of presenting the results of the visit.
The convoy comes within the framework of the Foundation's interest in helping the Egyptian state to fulfill its voluntary commitments to the universal periodic review mechanism, and out of its keenness to integrate the most marginalized areas in the efforts that focus on the universal periodic review as an entry point for improving public policies and achieving human development in its comprehensive sense.
The Foundation is expected to issue a comprehensive report on the visit and its activities after the end of the convoy, which will continue its activities between May 13-16, 2016.
