In a new partnership.. Maat signs a cooperation protocol with Al-Hikma University in Beirut

 Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights signed a Protocol of Cooperation with Al-Hikma University in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. This comes within the framework of the Association’s interest in the participatory approach and based on its responsibility to enhance the culture of Arab youth, build their capacities for human rights and security, and promote sustainable development.

Where the delegation of the Maat Foundation met with Dr. Lara Karam, President of Al-Hikma University, and a number of faculty members, and the meeting resulted in the signing of a cooperation protocol, and the agreement to start work on expanding the scope of the joint program between Lebanese and Egyptian universities on international criminal law and criminal procedures (“IUP-ICLP”). ) for students.

The IUP-ICLP program covers various topics such as sources of international criminal law and criminal procedure, substantive law (genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and terrorism), as well as international criminal procedure. The program has been refined to include topics such as transitional justice, the interaction between international criminal law and the domestic legal system, as well as international criminal law and Sharia law.

On the other hand, Ayman Okeil, a human rights expert and President of Maat, said that young people in the Arab region still need training, capacity-raising and empowerment to invest in youth wealth.

Okeil stressed that Maat is investing its efforts to develop more partnerships at the international level that work to educate and enhance youth experiences in the field of peace, security, sustainable development and human rights, in addition to building bridges among youth in the Arab region.

Okeil also recommended strengthening cooperation at the level of civil society organizations, research centers and educational institutions to address common challenges in national development for human rights contexts.

 Notably, Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights will implement a joint program on international criminal law and criminal procedure in cooperation with Al-Hikma University and the International & Transitional Justice Resources Center (ITJRC) and the Asser Institute in the Hague-Netherlands, in which a group of prominent international academics, judges and practitioners from The Hague and Lebanon will give speeches and lectures.
