Maat Concludes the Fourth Version of its Training Program Entitled "Educating Migrants about Egyptian Laws"

Okeil: We recommend strengthening the participatory role between civil society and international institutions concerned with the rights of migrants in Egypt

Pasha: migrants and their families should be included in the national education systems of the host countries

 

Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights concluded the fourth version of the training program entitled "Educating Migrants about Egyptian Laws", which is held in partnership with the International Organization for Migration in Egypt, in activation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties in order to enhance migrants' awareness of Egyptian laws and raise their skills and capabilities.

This training comes in the framework of raising awareness about the basic principles of human rights, and how migrants can enjoy them in Egypt. The training also highlighted the key Egyptian laws that enhance the basic rights of migrants, and included a number of panel discussions and debates on the reality of migrants from a human rights perspective.

For his part, Ayman Okeil, the international human rights expert and president of Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights, stressed the commendable steps and the huge responsibility that Maat has undertook in the migrant file in Egypt, especially with regard to educating migrants about Egyptian laws.

During his speech, Okeil stressed the vitality of cooperation between Maat for Peace and the International Organization for Migration, which paves the way for full enjoyment of the rights of migrants at all levels. Okeil reiterated the importance of the participatory role of civil society institutions with the relevant international and regional bodies, in order to ensure the implementation of all these constitutional provisions and human rights laws for migrants in Egypt.

Abdul Rahman Pasha, director of the Sustainable Development Unit at Maat, explained the importance of raising and discussing the set of human rights challenges facing migrants in Egypt, as well the challenges of national implementation of Egyptian laws regarding dealing with migrants and the migration file in general.

Based on the training proposals, Pasha recommended the importance of including migrants and their families within the national education systems in the host countries. This recommendation was one of the key outcomes of the discussion panel moderated by Maat on the right of migrants to education and the relevant laws, and how they can be fully realized.

Notably, this is the fourth version of this two-day training program, and it comes within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between the International Organization for Migration and Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights. The training is held within the framework of separate training sessions in order to enhance the conditions of migrants, raise their capabilities and ensure the full enjoyment of their rights in Egypt.
